Can you just plug in a 2nd hand receiver to a car that has never had
    remote central locking?

I have '96 850 wagon in Australia. It has never had remote control
for the central locking. Apparently rin Aus remote central locking
("rcl") was an option that was dealer fitted and they used a non oem
receiver. I have removed the glovebox and have identified the 5 pin
connector that I believe is the plug for a rcl receiver unit. The
connector is green plastic with only 4 of the 5 connctors used. My
plan is to try and find a 2nd hand OEM Volvo receiver form either a)
an Australian V70 mk1; or b) from a wrecked 850 from the USA or the UK
(if anyone has one for sale plus remotes pls let me know).

I nderstd that the OEM receivers have on them a part number that will
enable me to determine the correct Volvo remote that will work.

Can I just plug in a used OEM receiver, identify correct remote type
from the part no, program correct remote and bob's your uncle?

Or is this ides to simple to be true?

me know). I am pretty sure this will plug in directly and work.. Chris
