I recently acquired a 1996 850 T5 Estate. The radio often doesn't seem to be
able to pick up any stations on the FM band, for about 5 minutes after I've
switched on the car, then all of a sudden it works fine. Anybody got any
ideas?

Bad solder-joint in the radio, expands as it heats up, then gets
connected?

I think you hit the nail on the head... This problem happened on our 93
960... It got worse, and now the FM doesn't work at all... I think it's
going to be one of those spring projects, along with getting the right hand
parking light working on my dad's old Golf. I think my car is the only one
that is perfect (right now... knock on wood). I also need to fix the door
ajar switch for the dome light... More bad solder or contacts most likely.

Electrical problems that fix themselves usually involve a bad connection,
either soldered, or with a connector.... Connector problems are much easier
to fix tho.

Hello all,

I have the same problem on my '96 850, and I also had it on the old
('89?) 740! The trouble is that these things are all surface-mount
components inside, impossible to do anything without a circuit diagram.
I believe mine is a Blaupunkt but I can't find a collection of pictures
to try to identify it - anyone got any ideas?

Regards Ant

I believe if you use a'55 Champion spring with one coil cut off, it
will help <G>

Hey Ant...you're here too, huh? I am now that I've got an 850.

BTW your springs will go out tomorrow.
