Discussion in 'Volvo 850' started by Hugh Campbell, Oct 25, 2003.

  1. My 94 850 has lost count! The spedometer works fine, but the odometer has
quit on me. I don't see a cable - any ideas? TIA

no cable.its electronic and i would imagine the whole unit needs
replacing.......the whole unit being the speedometer, odometer
etc.........you can buy these as replacement units so you dont have to buy
the whole instrument cluster....but you will have to start from zero on the
    odometer again...........

For Hugh- a small gear in the odometer unit has lost a tooth- you can
get a replacement gear from www.odometergear.com or from Ebay-do a
search-a guy sells them for $16 + shipping. You can remove the gauge
cluster yourself- T25 screwdriver-check Bay13 at volvospeed on removal
of dash- you can dismantle the cluster with a T10 and a small phillips-
while you have the odometer gear out, set mileage by rotating the lower
gear that rotates the numbers with a rubber wheel on a small motor from
a toy car.You can even get the mileage from port A7 on the diagnostics-
check the brickboard- It took me six months to find all the information-
an hour to change the gear and reset odometer. If you aren't up to
changing the gear there is a speedometer shop in Austin texas you can
mail it to, but you have to tell him the mileage to set it to.
