Took my '95 850 wagon to the only Volvo dealership in the area and asked
them to run my VIN for any recalls. I bought the car last summer so I
had no idea what the situation might be regarding recalls.

To my surprise Campaign 140 and 112 came back as "incomplete" on my car.

After doing some digging on the net I've found that one is with regards
to wiring in the heated seat and the other to gas tank issues.

**Does anyone have experience with/knowledge of these recalls**

I'm especially concerned about the gas tank recall.

With my car I've always had to have the nozzle in the tank just right,
or most gas pumps won't pump gas into the car. The automatic shut off
would just keep kicking in, even though the tank was 3/4 empty. I
figured this was just a Volvo idiosyncrasy.

The seat heater recall is several years old. The gas tank "recall" was
initially offered just to cars that were sold in "hot" states or
registered in "hot" states. It has recently beeen expanded to cars in
all US states.

I just posted information about the gas tank recall about a week or
two ago. Here's the message-ID <[email protected]>.

The bottom line is that for most cars all they need to do is to
attach new bushings between the heat shield and the gas tank.

I'm wondering if any a.a.v. readers in Europe have experience
with/knowledge of 850 recalls? Here in Finland I have been unable to
discover _any_ information about _any_ 850 'recall' announcements, ever.
Specifically, when I called the local dealer recently and asked about
the fuel tank issue, they said, in effect, 'Huh?' Granted, Finland is
not exactly a hot state, but still...

cheers,

Henry

For vehicles sold in the USA, recalls can be searched for at
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/recalls/recallsearch.cfm

Bear in mind that these recalls only apply to cars sold in the US,
and are supported by Volvo Cars of North America (VCNA), not
necessarily all cars sold by Volvo worldwide. Is it fair to assume
that other countries may have their own recalls that do not apply
to US cars ??

The fuel tank recall is for the heat shield that mounts to the tank. On
some 850s, in hot weather, the mount causes fuel seepage, apparently. I had
mine in today and it was fine. I never noticed any seepage, either.
Probably more of an issue in Arizona than in Michigan.

The heated seat issue has to do with the wiring that makes up the seat. I
think that for overly heavy people, the load on the seat causes the wiring
to get pinched and possibly short, something like that.

Go to the NHTSA website and search for more details.
