960 door speaker removal...

Discussion in 'Volvo 960' started by Richard Brockie, Jun 24, 2003.

  1. Hi,

I am now ready to replace the speakers on my '94 960 estate/wagon, but
before I proceed, I need to be able to remove the old ones. They are
held in place be what appears to be a rivet with a central hole which
may or may not take a tool to allow removal. Can anyone shed any light
on this fastening and the best way to remove it?

    Thanks,

Use a power drill to drill the rivets out, size 5 drill from memory. The
best way to do this is to remove the whole door panel first and lay it flat
    on the floor.

  3. If its like my 740 they are rivets, drill them out carefully.

  4. That is what I suspected. I will need to discover how to get the door
    panel off without breaking it...

    Cheers,

    It is very easy

    - Take the speaker grille off (which you've already done)
    - Remove the 3 white clips at the bottom of the door panel. Use a flathead
    screwdriver to prise them out
    - Unscrew and remove the door lock knob
    - Prise out the red door open warning light lens
    - In the well behind the interior handle there is a small clip. Use a
flathead screwdriver, quarter turn and remove the clip & trim piece by
    pulling upwards.

Now grab the bottom of the door panel and pull towards you, then slide the
whole door panel upwards. Disconnect the door open warning light wiring and
the speaker wiring and you have the whole door panel off.

  7. There is no need to take off the door panel to replace the speakers. It is
easier with the door panels attached to the car that way they dont move
around while you are trying to drill them.
