I wanted to ask which of these two is in V40? When I bought the car in July 06 it had 129K miles, now it is 144k miles and I cant find any note about replacing timing belt in the service history that I have from the previous owners. If its a belt - how often does it need to be changed?

Not sure if you have the Misubishi GDI or the Volvo motor. If Volvo. it's a belt. Not sure about miles but in Australia, service interval is 7 years or 120,000 km. Might be a good idea to change yours just in case.

Yes you're right, Mitsubishi - not sure if its a belt or chain. Sorry.Wookee said:on the top cover of the engine there are three big letters GDI.....so maybe its a mitsubishi engine

If it is a belt, every 80,000 miles, I believe. Don't know about chain. My V40 arrived with 103,000 miles on the clock and I had the belt changed just in case.
