Amazon.com - BAD experience. I do not recommend them

This is a classic case of let-down. In early June I ordered a copy of
the Bentley Manual for my 1985 245. I was promised a ship date of July
27th. I patiently waited and yesterday (August 6th) I checked the
status of my account. After two and one-half months, the NEW ship date
is September 22nd! That's 4 months.

There are new copies of this book on eBay and other places, but I
wanted to play it safe and go with Amazon. What irks me most is they
promised a ship date and could not deliver. In exchange, the offered
me $5 off my next purchase. I laughed at them and told them I would
find 10 people and try and convince them not to buy a book from
Amazon.com. Sure, it's OK if they make promises and can't deliver - do
you think I mind waiting months for a book I need only to not get it,
and know I could have had it from another source? Keep the $5. I am
done with Amazon.

I only had one delivery problem among the many orders I've
placed with amazon.com for about as long as they have been
in business. That one was a purchase from a 3rd party
vendor on their site. When the promised delivery did not
happen, and I got no response to e-mails to the vendor,
amazon.com credited my charge card with the full cost,
including shipping.

There is always a risk in buying from a vendor you don't
know, but amazon.com turned the risk into a small annoyance.

Jamie, I have done business with Amazon *at least* two dozen times and
every time I have been satisfied with the service. So, did you order
directly from Amazon or from someone advertising on Amazon?

Since you weren't charged anything, aside from disappointment how have
you been harmed?

Do not count me among the ten you have convinced. Any thinking person
would encourage you to pursue alternative sources and quityerbitchin.

I've been doing business with Amazon for many years now and have had
exactly one time when they didn't deliver as promised. Probably their
supplier jerked them around and the effects hit you. Could have
happened with any retailer.
