First of all thinks to Jim Carriere for the information regarding my
steering rack. I was able to determine which one I have and successfully
replace my tie rod end.
I'm going to have to smog my 78 245 here soon. I plan to run some fuel
system cleaner through the car but am also considering taking the
injectors out and soaking them in it overnight. Will this harm them? BTW
is there any particular brand of cleaner that anyone here recommends?

If you intend to remove the injectors anyway, take them to a shop that does
cleaning and get them done properly.

I would very much like to do that, but I am under financial constraints.
This is why i am interested in taking the route mentioned above if it
will not damage the injectors.

Try the cleaner by all means but don't forget to change the fuel filter a
few tank fulls after you have used the treated tank because the cleaner also
cleans the residue out of the tank also and this stops in the filter.

The best two cleaners are BG44K and Chevron Techron. Use when you are not
going on a trip since the solvents work slowly and best when short
tripping. Another caveat besides the fuel tank issue is that varnish that
accumulates in the lines and hoses will flake off and tend to pile up on
the inlet screen to the control pressure regulator. You may have to
remove the banjo fitting and clean out the flakes.
