    Hey everybody
    I just bought my first volvo (740 GL Wagon, 1990, AT) a couple months
    ago - now that the cold weather has come I've noticed that it idles
    VERY low @ startup - especially when cold. I mean, arount 500-600
    RPM, on the verge of stalling, unless I rev it up to 1500 for a few
    seconds...despite what I've always been taught about treating a cold
    engine, in order to even it out @ around 900-1000. I've been told
    Volvo's require a few more cranks than other cars to get 'em going but
    it seems to be taking about 4-5 more cranks than my friends 91 760
    GLE.

    Car's got new plugs and wires, clean air filter I'm not sure what kind
    of gas to use in the car but I've always gone by the L4 -> 87, 6-cyl
    -> 89, 8+-cyl -> 93 rule. Perfect compression on all four cylenders.
    135,000 New England Miles.

    I've also noticed a funky pulsing idle at a complete stop when in
    gear...freaky and pushes the car forward if the brakes aren't down
    enough but not enough to cause immediate concern.

    Car's fuel injected, I'm not sure which system though.

    Thanks Guys
    Fred.
