ETS censor failure due to brake fluid leak

I have a 2000 C70 with a number of issues. The ETS sensor failed once. It was replaced and then failed again. I was told it was a bad censor. A month or so later the ETS sensor failed again and now when I took it to the same mechanic they are telling me that it is because it was covered in brake fluid. I also have a power steering leak. My question is what systems is the ETS sensor monitoring and could my fault be caused by either of these two problems I have now?
