Hi. I took my 83 240 to a CA smog test today and I passed on CO and
HC and failed because my timing was 22 degrees BTDC, and the spec is
12 degrees. The guys at the service station tried to change the
timing but were unable to turn the distributor (the loosened the screw
that holds it down). I took it to another shop which fixes volvos and
they said, "yup your distributor is frozen." and they put some kind
of penetrating oil on it which they said wouldn't eat the seals. I
have the white screw on dist cap which they told me is the chrysler
ignition. It appears that there are to notches in the bottom of the
dist which could be used to turn the cap with the right tool, anyone
seen that?
Thanks,
Mike
