I recently took my 97 glt into the dealer for the recent recall. They
told me that it was not in fact anything covered under the recall that
was causing my fuel to leak, and smell vapors in the cabin. They told
me that it was a fuel level sensor. Is this reasonable or are they
trying to screw me? Whenever i fill the tank, it overflows, and then
smells of fuel in the cabin for a few days, the smell occurs whenever
i put gas in, regardless of wether its a full tank or not. Are these
two things similar enough that maybe volvo doesnt want to change the
tank or heat shield or what??

thanks in advance!

I had this problem the day I was to go on holiday. I was ready to set off
and filled the tank. Shortly after I noticed a smell of petrol, looked under
the back of the car and noticed fuel dropping onto the road. Luckily I
contacted the mechanic i use and he got the car in straight away. After some
investigation, the problem was found to be on the collar at the top of the
tank which holds in the fuel level sensor. Whoever had been doing some work
on the car had not tightened it up properly. The collar was tightened and
all is well. Worth a look to see if the problem on your si the same.

The fuel level sensor is not part of the recall you had performed on your
Volvo . If you can provide a E-Mail address I will send you the service
bulletin that states what repairs are to be performed

Is for the New York City Firemen who lost their lives on September 11,2001.
The official count is 343, but there was also a volunteer who lost his life
aiding in the initial rescue efforts. And I will never forget them as long
as I live,
nor should any American.
