HU 650 2006 XC providing no audio

It seems like the unit is generally working – has power, I can change tracks in the CD or scan radio stations, and all the climate stuff works just fine - but no audio comes out. Every once in a great while we there is a short burst of sound but it only lasts a second or two.

I’ve checked all the connections on the back of the unit and they look good. Any suggestions on how to diagnose and/or solve?

Spent $65 at the dealer to diagnose - head unit was bad.

$1200 to replace new, Picking up a used one for ~$100. Then have to get it programmed.
