Key is stuck

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by Peter \(Remove the Remove\), Jun 3, 2004.

  1. I have a '99 XC and I can't get the key to turn back all the way in the
ignition so that I can remove it. I tried moving the shifter around but that
didn't release the key. Looking for some advice on what could be wrong.
    Thanks,

I had this on my '98. Turns out the button on the shifter knob wasn't
coming back out all the way. Until it was fixed, slapping the knob
caused the button to pop out. It was fixed under warranty, they said
they had to "reposition the cable". This is a cable that goes from the
shifter to the ignition switch that stop you from turning the key all
the way off in any position but park.

  3. Thanks Mike. It turned out to be my stuck overdrive button on the console.
It was up enough to turn the dash light off but not up enough to release the
    ignition switch.
