Keyless Remote for S70 from eBay

Discussion in 'Volvo S70' started by marlon.harrison, Nov 19, 2006.

  1. Hi I've searched through the answers in this forum and I'm a little
confused and I'm hoping that someone an clear things up for me. I just
bought a used 2000 S70 with a single key and no remotes. The dealers
in my area charge $100 each and I need at least two so I'm looking to
    eBay.

I see that some people have mentioned that I need to make sure that I
have a PIN for the remote and I've contacted a few of the sellers
selling these remotes and none of them have it or seem to know what I'm
talking about. Since there is no existing remote, is this a concern,
    or have I misunderstood something?

In an earlier contribution to this discussion,

If you buy them on Ebay - or anywhere else for that matter - they will need
to be programmed to work with you car. You will need to get a dealer to do
that. Find out how much they charge - you'll probably be better off getting
them to supply the remotes as well!

I bought one on ebay for my 96 960 from keyless ride and it came with
programming instructions that were very easy to follow. (turn key from
off to on without starting car
5 times in ten seconds then hit a button on the remote.)
It is probably similar for your car. I would reccomend keyless ride as
a seller I was very pleased witht he whole process. It cost me $44
total with shipping for my remote.
The Volvo dealer quoted me around $250 for a remote and programming.

    This is for all 1999-2000 S/V 70's
The dealership has to order software, load into the car
to tell it to program the new or used remote.
There will be a charge for software.
There will be a labor charge.
There will be the price of the part charge
where ever you get the remote.
You are taking a chance if the used remote works or not.
The new remote comes with a 1 year warranty.
Have the dealership remove all of the old stored remotes
from the car. It will hold either 3 or 6 remote positions,
    can't remember.

    -------

You can not program a used remote for any S80 or 2001 up S60, V70.
There is a 8 pin and a 16 pin code that comes with each new remote
that is manually entered at the time of programming a new remote.
The 8/16 pin code gets thrown away after programming.
There is no way to track the pin code for a used remote.

so does this mean i can buy a used remote for my 1998 v70xc?
what has to be done to make it work with a '98?

and are the remotes for the 1008 different from the laer ones?

There are lots of different remotes across the years, and even in the
same model year depending on whether you have an alarm or not. Get one
that matches the part number on your existing remote. (The remote for
my '98 has 9166200 on it)
You need the alarm PIN, which is available from a Volvo Dealer
You need a Volvo System Tester, which a dealer should have, and often
Volvo independents have one as well.
You need to have all your remotes on hand, as the process erases all old
remotes and the system needs to relearn them, IIRC.

Replace tt with t (twice!) and remove parentheses to email me directly.
(But I check the newsgroup more often than this email address.)
