The next step was to replace all the burned out bulbs. I had already
gone through the tail lights. Everything was working but there were
three bulbs that were blackened inside and were probably ready to go,
so those were replaced, and one pair were mismatched (one chrome and
one brass). I also used Scotchbrite and cleaned all the contacts on
the sockets as well as the tail light housing. The lights are now VERY
bright. The under-hood bulb was also replaced today.

Next were the dash lights. The three bulbs that are supposed to light
the center switches were all burned out, so I pulled off the front
center of the dash and found that they were not only burned out, but
two of them weren't even inserted into the dash. While that was apart
I saw that there were some leaves back in the ventilation system, so I
poked my head back there and WHOA! By the time I got done I had a pile
of leaves large enough to build a small oak tree. There was also a
good build up of crud at the bottom of the evaporator. I cleaned all
that out as best I could, using compressed air, a squirt bottle of
water, a long 1/4" spring, and a long hose connected to the shop vac.

Tomorrow the center console comes out and I clean up all the dried on
coffee, coke, and crud down in there.

Mine had most of the globes blown when I got it, then they were very
bright... sometimes. It was an over-charging alternator - I think I have
replaced/fixed the alternator on every car I ever owned.

The under-hood bulb was also replaced today.

I have a 91 940 Estate, should that have a bulb under the hood? Where
should I find it?

Uk Spec if that makes a difference!

Our '93 960 does not have an under-hood light, if that helps.
The 240's have a light that is at the th base of the hood- that is,
when the hood is open it is located in the center of the hood, at the
edge closest to the cowl. If you check auto parts suppliers, there are
generic after market devices similar to that. The 240 has a mercury
switch(!), but other gravity switches should be avaliable as well.

In a word NO. My 945 SE has one which came from my old 760, my 945 being a
1996 model.

All the best, Peter.

FWIW our 1989 740 GL Estate does have an under bonnet light. Has a mercury
switch in it but can be manually switched off.

Andy

That would be an item fitted by a previous owner as an extra. It was not
fitted as standard.

All the best, Peter.

Fraid not Pierre. This Ovlov striaght out of the showroom, no extras
whatsoever. Had since new. Can't see the garage addind it just for fun or
whatever.

Then it was specified by purchaser when ordered. Volvo have a fairly
flexible attitude to customer's wants and will fit anything ordered
(provided it is paid for). Thanks for the feedback mate. My light just has a
switch without the mercury bit.

All the best, Peter.
