Is there a consensus about changing the transmission fluid and rear
axle fluid for an '92 automatic 240 sedan?

Haynes says something while the owner's manual for the 240 says
something else.

Thanks.

Wouldn't hurt to flush the transmission every 2 years or 50k miles, rear end
can be done less frequently unless you have a limited slip diff.

Green Book says change the ATF every 30,000 miles (if auto box) and add fluid to
rear axle when level is down on regular checks.

Cheers, Peter.

The transmission fluid should be flushed/replaced (not just changed
in the pan)
every three or four years - that's more or less the consensus. The gear
oil in the
differential should probably be replaced every 5 or 6 years, but that
isn't as
critical as making sure the fluid level is ok. I'd definitely do it at
least once if
it's never been done.
