new tires on the xc70??

  1. I have to change tires on my newly purchased XC70/03.
    What would you specialists recommend?
Mild summer and winter temperatures but lots of rain and some snow during
    winter.
Would the original Pirelli scorpion str be a good choice?

I replaced the original Michelin MXV4s on my 1999 S70 with Bridgestone
Turanzas LS-Hs and they have been great. They are quieter and seem to
turn in better. They were comparably priced and rated much more highly
on Tirerack.com I should have taken a trip to Buffalo this past weekend
to see how they work in the snow.... {:)>

I'm not a fan of Pirelli tires because the ones I've used have been
    noisy and harsh riding.

Since you apparently don't get much snow I would stay away from the
more truck like tires with aggressive treads that are designed for
severe snow. They will be loud and will deliver less than good milage.
Consider instead a Yokohama Avid TRZ All Season tire. Yokohama tires
in my experience give an excellent ride and traction and they come with
    an 80,000 mile warranty.

  4. I have replaces the tires on my '01 V70 XC twice and stuck with the
Pirelli Scorpions both times. They are great tires. My previous
experiences with Pirellis was mixed, they had great traction and poor
wear. The Scorpions seem to have great traction and good tread life. I
love them. Besides that, there are very few other tires the correct
size and with a good speed rating.
