Please help:

On the pre 1996 models i could read the fault code on the 6 pole diagnostic
unit with the flashing led (in the engine compartment). On my current model
i can only find an 16 pin diagnostic CARB connector in the center
console..... But no wire, led or switch to operate.

Does anyone know if there is another way to read/reset the fault codes on
this model?

Is the system the same but do i only need to make a sort of connector with a
switch + led?

Thanks,
Albert

Your diagnostic unit is under the front seat (driver's LHD, passenger's RHD).
However it needs a special tool (or tools) to read it.

Cheers, Peter.

As a new reader of this news group, I posted a similar question on the 12th
Dec.
I had not read your posting at that time.
I guess the 940 that you have is equipped with a jetronic fuel injection ECU
and not a motronic, that is however the case with my 940 230FK 1997.
I belive that the 16 pin connector in the center console is in fact using
the OBD2 standard for those units in the car that acctually works with this
standard ( immobilizer, airbag )
But the Jetronic ECU and the Ignition module has the diagnostic wire, which
was previously routed to the diagnostic unit in the engine compartment,
terminated on some pins in the 16 pin connector.
I was looking at a demo for diagnostic software for volvo Vol-FCR.
from its 900 series section, I could se the units not working with OBD2
protkol. Selecting these gives a message about how to retrieve codes like
with the earlier diagnostic unit.

messages says:
To retrieve the flash code the following procedure can be adopted:
Connect an LED, with the correct polarity, in series with a 1k8 ohm
resistor, between pin 16 (+) and pin (12 for ABS, 13 for Cruise control)) .
Connect a push to make switch between pin 3 and pin 4 or 5 (-). The circuit
can then be used in the same way as the pre '96 diagnostic sockets, situated
in the engine compartment.

But of course it also says: The use of this information is entirely at the
users risk.
Which has done that so far I'm only thinking about it!
But some day I might go for it, and I think the Jetronic is terminated to
pin 3 in the 16 Pin connector.
