pre-fuel pump repair

    My mech. told me the pre-pump is not working but that it was only a problem if
    the tank was below 1/2 fuel. I decided to replace it myself and think its
    pretty simple but...I'm concerned about the residual gas fumes in the tank when
    I take off the (collection of hose/tubes) cap. I'm thinking of getting a can of
    CO2 and spray it into the tank until used up. Otherwise I'm clueless.

    If it works when the tank if full it is only the bellows hose between the
    pump and pipe above it. Less than $10 even at a dealership.
