Hi,

I am looking at replacing my tired 328i with a 2000 S80 T6 w/ 53K miles.

Is there anything specifically that I need to look for or avoid in this car?

Thanks in advance for your help.

here is mu $.02...avoid the car all togather..
that year..that car,...volvo was in the learning
curve...i would buy a used bmw 5 series...b4 a
volvo s80...untill at least a 03 or 04 s80...even then..
be careful...if you want a sweet volvo..look for a
97-99 volvo...and sink 3-6k in parts & tweeking
the car for performance...you will have a real
volvo gem then...my opinion...i could be wrong...

Interesting. I was offered a 1999 S80 2.9 o Long Island, NY for $11,500.
IT has 54,000 miles. Anything about that year and model that
particularly troubling?

May I get a response to this?

Thanks

99 even worse...the earlier, the worse for the s80...
volvo didn't "get it right" on this car for a few years...i would not
touch any s80 prior to 2002 or 2003...my persnl opinion...i had
one...too big and heavy for me anyway...as far as problems...onthing
in particular...just a lot of small %$#^ that starts going wrong after
some hard driven miles...the older s80 will start nickle & diming ya
to death...eaxcep instead of nickels and dimes every time you go to
the dealer...it is a few hundred $$...but...having said that...you may
find a good one and have few problems.....get it checked out 1st by
someone who knows volvos and is independent...then, get a warranty if
you want "piecs of mind" and predicitability in $$ out...

what is wrong w/the BMW 5 series? have you driven and priced
them...mid 90's...say 96-99??

Beancounter, anyone who knows how to do a Usenet search can search for
"beancounter" and see just how much you loved your S80 and how trouble-free
it was right up until your personal financial situation became critical and
you sold it for a much less expensive model. You were always signing the
praises of the S80, reliability, drivability, etc. It wasn't until after you
sold it that you started the "sour grapes" routine.

My 2000 S80 has been utterly reliable and hasn't cost me a single cent past
the regular scheduled services. It has over 50,000 hard miles and has never
spent a night in the shop. You should consider abandoning the sour grapes
drama.

My advice, get the car if you like it and don't waste your money on any sort
of extra warrantee. That's what the dealers make all their money selling.

Interesting. How does one perform a usenet search for the information
that you mentioned.

From all of this, seems like it is a car to avoid.

Go to groups.google.com and use the advanced search. I don't think the
2000 S80 is a bad car.
