How long have you had the remote control? A lot of them get thrown away or
replaced by the dealer only available item. The trick is to take the batteries
out, noting which way up the four batteries are mounted in the fob, and
thoroughly clean the batteries and the contact areas inside the fob and under
the lid. Check the batteries for signs of life and if OK re-install them and you
should have an operating fob once more.

Mine has been going for a couple of years now and it wasn't new when I got the
car. It still locks/unlocks the car from around 100 feet away.

    Cheers, Peter.

Albert, did you change the batteries? It's very unlikely that the remote
control itself is broken, there's very little circuitry inside.

    PS
nieuwe batterijen zijn wel prijzig: eur 4.80 per stuk (Handyman)
