What BMW and Mercedes Benz models are roughly equivalent to the Volvo
S-60? I'm thinking in terms of size, interior room, handling and
accelleration.

S60: Mercedes C-class and BMW 3series
The same applies to the S40 and the V50
The latter are slightly smaller and the S60 slightly bigger.

V70 and S80: E-class and BMW 5series
