Fixed it yet?
I had a lighter jammed in mine once so I know exactly what you mean 
I don't remember how it got it out but it must have been by hooking
the obstruction out via the slim gap aound the lid as I have just had
a look and the lid will only come off when it is open.
I can take a few photos if it will help.
