Has anyone ever had a problem with the seat belt that will not extend to the
fastener ?
I have an '98 S70. I can not extend the belt. It is locked and I can't
extend it to fasten
it at all ( around the driver) Yes... it is happening in the driver's seat
only. Any explanations
would be appreciated !!!!

For most makes of car the seat belt mechanizm is covered for an unlimited
time/mileage by the manufacturer (i.e. Nissan replaced seatbelts on my 13
year old maxima with 160,000 miles on it). Check with the dealer,
federally-mandated safety equipment is probably covered.

Adding onto this, I'd hope the dealer would pay for the tow truck as
well!

Often cars with these infinite seat belt warranties are because they
have lots of failures and the lifetime warranty is cheaper to the
manufacturer than otherwise what would be a mandated recall. And this
way the manufacturer look good: "Wow, my seatbelt was covered even
though my car is an ancient POS!" as opposed to "I can't believe I have
to take my new car in for a new seatbelt, can't they even get that
correct?!" (I'm not saying that applies to the above Maxima.)

Volvos (at least my '98s) have only a 5 year seatbelt warranty. If the
belt won't pull out (and the car is not parked on an incline), then
either it's defective or the mounting bolt is loose. If the mounting
bolt is loose, then the mechanism is may not be at the correct angle,
similar to having the car parked on an incline.
