Yes, it has been a long time since I have been here. Not much to
report other than a car that I fall in love with every time I drive it
(my 1990 245, 5 speed stick).
But I just did my first timing belt (just hit 200,000!). Very easy to
do, really. Since it is a stick there was no need at all for the crank
locking tool. I just put it in second (iirc) and used a pipe on a
breaker bar. I had bought everything I needed, and replaced the idler
pulley, and also replaced the cam seal. There had been a leak up there
but I wasn't sure if it was the valve cover or the cam. I have about
250 miles on it since the belt change, and all is dry, so I am hoping
it was the cam seal (yes, I checked the flame arrestor and it was
fine).
About the last report I gave was when I replaced the air mass meter,
and since then about all I have needed is a bit of coolant added to
the reservoir and an oil change or two. What a great car! And 25+ mpg!
