Its has the std automatic tranny, turbo wagon version. Just
wondering if it could handle towing a Coleman or similar pop-up
camper... a smaller one, which could sleep three. No, it wouldn't
involve any steep mountain climbs, only hills. If I do that, should I
install a tranny temp gauge? It doesn't have an aftermarket trans.
oil cooler, just the cooler that has coils on the radiator. So I guess
I should definitely add a good heavy duty SEPARATE cooler.

Actually a pop-up like Jayco which can sleep 8 and is 23 ft. long is
still under 1000lbs....its listed as 900 dry weight.

Should not be a problem at all for that car. For safety sake and the
life of the transmission just keep the speed reasonable, don't let it
lug on the uphill and all should be well.

I've towed a 2500 lb boat and trailer with my 240 Turbo, it had no trouble
going up steep hills and on the highway. Since yours is an automatic you
might want a tranny cooler but the rest of the car should be fine if
everything is in shape.
