I would like to pull a 4x8 trailer with my 740 turbo wagon. So first
step is install the hitch. I would prefer to save some $$$ installing
it myself. It needs to bolt on, no welding needed. The trailer I am
getting is rated for 1000 lbs max. I don't think I should go over half
that probably as it has auto tranny. .....but that should meet my
needs. I already have a 1-1/4 in. chrome ball receiver and ball.
Anyway I found this "universal" hitch up for auction on ebay....there
is a pic that shows what cars it is for, and none of them are Volvo,
but that doesn't mean it wouldn't fit on Volvo....I just don't know.
One kind of needs to be sure because of the expense of shipping it
back to vendor if it won't work. Any idea if it would fit or not? If
this doesn't work, any ideas as to a source for an install-yourself
kit?

There is nop way to tell how good a no-name universal hitch is and I
certainly would not trust an Ebay dealer to provide critical safety
information. Unless you know exactly which class of hitch to get,
which brands to look for, how to install it, how to wire your car, I
STRONGLY suggest that you have either a RV supply or U-Haul store
install one for you.

I towed several trailers with a 960 automatic and had absolutely no
problem with tracking, lighting, etc. But the hitch, wiring and
isolating connector were designated for a 960 and installed by a local
trailer sales shop. It was money well spent.

Forgot to mention - I did the same thing with a 1988 740 non-turbo.

Yea, I had decided that an ebay hitch was not a good idea. I am having
a pro who has been doing hitch installations for 40 years install one
using a kit sepifically for this car. But I am doing the light wiring
myself. regards, Geronimo
