Trip Computer - WTF?!

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by Hamish Alker-Jones, Aug 11, 2004.

  1. What is going on?

I sourced a switch for the trip computer for the S70 after Bob Noble (thanks
Bob) pointed out that all I needed was all ready in place and just needed
the switch. No worries, came in under 70 bucks AUS, but software download
was going to be in the order of ~500 AUS.

    Anyway around this "costly" addition?

    Cheers

    Hi, Hammo - - -

When this "activation" issue was first floated on the NG several years
ago. I don't remember anyone raising the issue of computer programming
being required. I think that the Dealers are just hung up on the need
to tie in to the Great Computer in the Sky in Sweden. Before models
other than all S80's, all S60's and the S/V70's and 40's after 2000(?),
this was a non-issue. It's only the models loaded with microprocessors
    that swing this way.

Surely someone out there with a memory younger than mine will recollect
just what was required to effect this project . . .
