Volvo 2.5T=Renault?

Discussion in 'General Motoring' started by Branimir H. \(Baja\), Aug 2, 2004.

  1. After my visit one of installers for LPG equipment, during checking autodata
    and LPG manufacturer's databases, I notice that Volvo 2.5 T 210 hp/320 Nm
engine is origin by Renault. Is it true, and if it is, in which Renault cars
    I can find that engine?

To my knowledge is the 5 cylinder, pure Volvo.

    It is not from Audi.

in some Renualt Safranes at one time.

  5. Search google for Renault Safrana 2.5 20V and you get a lot of hits. Most in
french, but it says in many of them its a 5 cyl engine.

There really is a Renault Safrane model with Volvo 5-cyl. engine installed.
It is very rare, as well as is the whole Safrane family outside France.
Volvo has had a long-term co-operation with Renault when talking about
engines. Actually I found Renault´s diamond-logo from the block of my 960´s
B6304F engine when installing an engine heater unit. It must mean that
Renault have supplied Volvo with some cast components of engines...

I just changed the wires in my V70, and it said on the box that the set
fit Volvo and Renault, without specifying years or models. Now I know
    why!

Volvo inherited Renault engines when they bought the Dutch DAF firm,
which made small cars fitted with a CVT transmission. Apart from their
smallest cars , the Daffodil,Daf 33 and Daf 44 which used an air-cooled
    Flat-twin of between 650 and 850 ccm depending on model, Daf's 55 and 66
models used Renault 1100 or 1300 engines. The Daf 66 morphed into the
Volvo 66- just badging changes at first, really the engineering changes
under the skin came later- and Daf's next model which would have been
the 77, emerged as the Volvo 343, still with a Renault engine, of
    1400ccm, and Daf's Variomatic CVT
