After a few miles when warm gearbox locks in 3

    I have a 2003 SE80 Diesel Automatic.
    The gearbox has developed a fault.

    When I set off from cold the gearbox changes gear normally, but after about 5 miles when it has warmed up the gearbox drops from drive to 3 gear and locks there sometime with a jerk and thump. When I stop and go it starts off in 3rd gear. But if I switch the engine off and stat up again the gearbox is normal for a few miles then locks up in 3rd again. I have used Lucas no slip but this made no difference.
    The O ring and spring clip have also been replaced.
