I dropped a headlight the other day when removing it and shattered the
lense, as one does. It wasn't too disastrous as it had a nasty stone chip
in it anyway. I got a new one and installed it. I now have a nice, very
clear, lense and a rather dirty old lense on the other side. Would it be
worth taking the other lense out and giving it a good wash inside and out,
or does the dirt bond with the glass after a time.

It's not important, just cosmetic.

Mine washed up great in the dishwasher. Wife almost used one as a casserole
dish :)

Try the dishwasher and efter that some polishing can be needed.

It's worth trying to give it a good scrub, but often the glass gets pitted
so an old one will never look as good as a new one. Mine had minor pitting
in the glass when I got them, I applied that protective film and it made
them look like new.
