I just read on Volvo Canada's website that after the release of the new
S40 2005 early next year, "next in line will be the P12 Wagon"...that
will hit the showrooms in the first half of 2004. I heard of the V50,
but P12 sounds totally new to me, and it seems completely out of their
lineup... S40, V50, S60, etc...

Anyone heard about this before?

Richard Bouchard.

By the way. Just bought a 2001 red V40. 'Twas the dealership's courtesy
car. It has 44,000 km and over two years of warranty to go. We'll pick
it up a week from now. Can't wait...

As a former Volvo worker I know that this is just the "work name" of the
model.
Previous models of volvo have all had their own "internal" names, I think
S80 was named P23 (or was it the 850? can't remember ...).
In the volvo factories, they use the nomenclature PXX, where XX is a number
instead of the more commercial names like V70, S60, .... but don't ask me
why.

Greetings from Gothenburg.

Hi Richard,

The prefix "P" has been used before, though sometimes changed later.

E.g. P1900 1956-57 Body Type Sports.
P120 (120 Series, Amazon). 1956-67 Body Type Sedan (4 Dr.)
P130 (120 Series, Amazon) 1961-70 Body Type Sedan (2 Dr.)
P220 (120 Series, Amazon) 1962-69 Body Type Estate
P1800 1961-63 Body Type GT Coupe
1800S 1963-69 Body Type GT Coupe
1800E 1969-72 Body Type GT Coupe
1800ES 1971-73 Body Type GT Coupe

Sure but as I said, the model will not be named P12, it will soon get it's
commercial name, like S50, S20, V30 or whatever ....
P12 is the name of the project.

Could be a replacement for the V70. The design was done in 2001, if it gets
a replacement in 2005, as a 2005.5 or a 2006 it would be right on track for
updates.

I really hope it will be Volvo making engines for their cars still. I really
don't want to see a duratec V6 inside a Volvo.
