    Hi all,

How can one reset (or disable ?) the "Service" light on a 740 GLE ?

I'd like to begin changing the oil myself but don't want the light
coming on all of the time.

    Thanks much,

As I recall it's a button that you must find by feel on the backside of the
    speedo cluster.
Remove the two screws that hold the cluster in. Pull out far enough to get your
    fingers
behind the center of the cluster. It will be a small (approx .25 inch square)
    button. Push
it in and your good for 5000 miles (I think).

Hope that helps. It's been about three years since I had a 740 and I found it a
welcome improvement to find that button on the FRONT side of the 940 cluster

    God Luck

The later ones have a button covered by a rubber plug in the lower
speedometer, accessible from the front. But since the OP didn't give
    his year...

Replace tt with t (twice!) and remove parentheses to email me directly.
(But I check the newsgroup more often than this email address.)

    Thanks Mike and all.

I found it. Turns out that it's also mentioned in my Chilton manual.
