Steering Wheel Groaning

Hey guys! So I've noticed recently when I've been turning my wheel, either way, that there has been a creaking/groaning noise coming from the car. It sounds like it's coming from the engine. It's quite possible that it's my power steering since I have no fluid in the container. By the way, the power steering fluid vessel is broken so I'll have to replace that. Anyways, I'm just wondering if it is the psf or something else, thanks
