Stupid Question -- Help Please?

Okay, this is really dumb, so I apologize in advanceif I offend intelligent
people.

I need to replace a couple of parts on my car, but I don't know what they're
called, which makes looking for them online difficult, and asking for them at
my auto shop too embarrassing to contemplate.

I have a 1989 Volvo 240 wagon. You know those two piston-y, strut-y dealy-bobs
that hold up the big back door when you raise it? Mine have failed utterly and
I need to replace them (ever try taking a heavy load out of the back of your
wagon while trying to hold the door open with our head? not recommended), but
I don't know what they're called. Anyone?

Thanks!

Patricia

Those are gas-filled struts, also called gas-filled lifts. You can usually
find or order them at AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts, and similar places.

There is a saying my friends have its that the question that's too stupid to
ask hasn't been asked yet ! We all have to learn .

Patricia,

try here:

http://www.fcpgroton.com/volvo240other.htm

Scroll down to part # 1254916 , they are called Tailgate Shock for Wagons
(79-93) and they are 13 bucks each.

Thank you so much! After you told me what they're called, I also checked with
the local (Chicago) Swedish Auto Parts. They charge $23 apiece for the same
parts. I ordered them instead from the place you suggested (shipping was less
than $5). I thank you, and my head thanks you!
