The upper engine mount on my '02 V70 is broken (the rubber part). I did a
little research and learned that this is a fairly common problem. Are there
any preferred solutions?

Replacing it would seem like a good idea to me?

Duh? Yeah, but Volvo wants like $200 for the part. I've seen one place (IPD)
that sells a rubber "grommet" for around $25 that replaces just the rubber
part. I was looking for some opinions of the possible solutions.

IPD knows their stuff. You might also try FCP Groton,
www.alloemvolvoparts.com and a couple other online suppliers whos name
escapes me.

Have you actually priced the part at a dealer?
