My 98 V70 was blowing headlight bulbs like crazy. They Volvo replaced
the bulb sockets or something under extended warranty and now no more
burnouts. Don't know if your year has the same issue. We don't use
Volvo bulbs, just whatever is cheap at the auto supply place.

It also helps if you set the screw in the lighting switch ** so that the
lights are not automatically on whenever the car is running!

** Available on old shape V70 - not sure about new shape.

Nope - the 'new' V70/XC70 needs to go to the dealer and have him plug it in
and charge you anywhere from £50 to £100 just like anything else on these (I
had a C70 which was great and now have an XC70 and the changeover to
everything needing to be plugged in at the dealer has put me off Volvos)

On our 2001 V70 you just turn the switch to the centre position and you
get side lights only. Only problem - they stay on with the ignition off
so you have to remember to turn the switch when you park.

Yes, well, they're not Volvos any more, are they? Fords now.

Our local dealer used to sell Volvos exclusively, and I had every
confidence in their staff. When Fords bought them out, they lost the
dealership.

Ford bought Volvo in 1999 and the S80/V70/S60 line started production in
1998 so was little to do with Ford until they borrowed the P2 platform and
renamed it Ford D3
